Selling Houses Australia - S12 EP4 Inverloch VIC

SELLING HOUSES AUSTRALIA

Fleur and Tony Speed love their big, quirky Inverloch home. They raised their children and pets here and the entire house is covered with artist Fleur’s works. As well as the paintings, Fleur crafted a floor of mosaics in the master and the main bathroom.

The couple want to downsize, get rid of the mortgage and spend more time in Bali where they support disadvantaged children in a small village. They’ve built a school and are just finishing off an Airbnb cabin, the profits from which will help support workers in the village.

Fleur’s been working as a real estate agent in town. She’s tried selling her own home to save on the commission, but so far, no one seems willing to take on the unusual house with the mad mosaics and leaky skylights. If we can bring the house up to speed and get the $780,000 price tag, the Speed’s will be able to pour more money into helping her kids and friends in Bali.

Renovation Recap: EP4 Inverloch VIC - Selling Houses Australia Series 12

Interior

LIVING ROOM

It was critical to lighten up the house, so Shaynna decided to paint all the dark overhead beams white and plaster over the high wooden ceilings. The leaky old skylights were replaced with new ones.

MASTER BEDROOM

Originally a four bedroom house with two lounge areas, the owners had claimed the back living room as a master bedroom. Shaynna decided to revert to the original configuration. She removed the mosaic floor in the former master bedroom, and new (carpet) flooring was installed into new bedrooms 1 and 2 as well as the new rumpus room.

Although the house sat on a significant piece of land and was sheltered by tall trees all round, each room had multiple large bare windows which needed covering. The bedrooms in particular required additional privacy and light control for the morning sun and after hours, thus dual-opacity Luxaflex® Roller Blinds were selected to complete the task. The opaque front roller fabric provided maximum block-out qualities to shield out the sun during the day and ensure full privacy at night-time. This was teamed up with the rear Sunscreen roller which filtered gentle light into the rooms whilst enabling a charming view of the natural outdoor surroundings.

Backyard

The backyard was a good size but quite degraded by dog activity. Charlie decided that the grassed area need to be enlarged to allow more play area for children. He removed some of the paving to make this change and turfed the entire area.

FRONT GARDEN

The front garden already had some lovely plants, but was overgrown. It also contained an ugly and unused spa. Charlie emptied the spa and repurposed it as a planter box for a large tree. Finally, Charlie installed a steel arch with planters at the front of the property to enhance its street appeal.

The Verdict

With a lot of Melburnians looking to purchase weekenders in Inverloch, the suburb is popular. But with an asking price of $785,000, this particular property needed a lot more than a lick of paint to compete with the newer homes in the area.

After the stunning new kitchen was installed, and the place overhauled with modern furnishings (and art!), Fleur and Tony managed to sell their Inverloch home for $790,000. A fantastic result for the pair!
